         Who participates on the Sankofa: Ghana trip?

         People of African descent and people of goodwill, 20 years of age or older, who express a commitment to learning and growing.

What are the dates of the trip?
June 11-22

What is the commitment required prior to the trip?

Participants are expected to attend our virtual pre-trip orientation sessions where participants will meet each other and learn more about the culture, history, and economy of Ghana today.

How do I prepare for the trip?

Next steps will be communicated to participants throughout the process.

Is the COVID-19 vaccination recommended?
YES. Both The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the State Department recommends vaccination prior to travel.

What will a daily schedule look like during the trip?
See the Sample Itinerary Tab for details. Days will typically include site visits, community interaction, and group debriefing.

What is the trip cost?

$4,700-includes round-trip airfare, ground transportation, accommodations, meals, and museum entrance fees.

Is SankofaNow tax deductible?

YES. As a 501(c)3 organization, donations made to SankofaNow are tax deductible.

Can I raise support for my trip?
Yes, you can raise support for your trip and all donations are tax deductible.

Do I need to exchange currency?

Yes. There will be an opportunity to exchange currency when we arrive in country.

Are there any other costs associated with the trip?
There are no other costs associated with the trip. However, each participant is encouraged to bring extra money for shopping, other personal items, and offering for Sunday worship service.

What if I have to back out of the trip after signing up?

Once the tickets are purchased all cancellations will be subjected to airlines rules and regulations.

How do I apply for a passport?

There are several ways to apply for a passport. Read more on the State Department’s website.

How do I apply for a visa?

All US citizens need a visa.  We recommend the multiple- entry visa as it would come in handy should you be so inclined to return within 5 years. Visit the Ghana Embassy in DC website to learn more.

Do I need any special immunizations for travel?

The Yellow Fever shot is required. Visit CDC to learn more.

Is trip insurance provided?
YES

Will I need to know another language?

No. English is the official language of Ghana.

Will I have access to the Internet?

Yes. However, signal strength and availability will vary greatly depending on location.
